Board Certified in Family Medicine, Steven Arendt, MD is an Eisenhower Primary Care Physician at the Rancho Mirage Medical Center in Rancho Mirage. Additionally, he currently serves as the Chief Medical Information Officer at Eisenhower Medical Center.
Dr. Arendt received his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, Riverside before receiving his medical degree at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Arendt then completed his residency in family medicine at Swedish Hospital Medical Center in Seattle, Washington where he was Chief Resident.
“Medicine was a career path I embraced as a little boy. My pediatrician was my inspiration to become a physician,” says Dr. Arendt. “I can’t really remember a time when I wasn’t going to be a doctor. I always had my sights set on medical school — thinking I would become a pediatrician. I soon figured out that I enjoyed taking care of entire families, so I headed down the family medicine path.”
Having practiced family medicine for over 20 years, Dr. Arendt developed an interest in health information technology and served as the medical director and physician champion for information technology for ambulatory clinics at Valley Medical Center in Renton, WA. As Chief Medical Information Office for Eisenhower Medical Center, he works with technology staff to ensure that health technology applications make sense and are functional from a clinical viewpoint. “I am a liaison between the information systems staff and the medical staff,” states Dr. Arendt.
“I am a proponent of patients becoming involved with their own care, and am a strong believer in the appropriate use of humor as a therapeutic avenue to healing. Given my interest in technology, I am big advocate and user of online communication with my patients and have found that I can respond faster to questions and inquiries, giving my patients a higher quality of care.”
Community involvement is a priority for Dr. Arendt and he actively volunteers with Volunteers in Medicine in Indio. He is married to Nancy Arendt who is Eisenhower Director of Medical Education. They have two children.
