  • Board Certified in Family Medicine, Anne Montgomery, MD, received her medical degree from Mayo Medical School in Minnesota. Dr. Montgomery went on to complete her residency at University of Minnesota Affiliated Community Hospitals, Saint John’s Unit.  Dr. Montgomery has also completed a faculty development fellowship in Family Medicine.

Dr. Montgomery’s initial interest in medicine started early.  Like many young girls, at age seven she received a nurse’s dress-up outfit which led her to consider a medical career.  Coupled with her father’s encouragement to become a doctor and her affinity for sciences, Dr. Montgomery entered college as a pre-med student.  During medical school at Mayo, she enjoyed all of her rotations — internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, surgery, psychiatry — which led her to choose the broad specialty of family medicine. It was while serving in a clerkship with a family physician who had a young child that Dr. Montgomery saw she could balance a career in family medicine with her desire to have a family.

“While I was at Mayo, I had many great mentors who later became leaders in the specialty of family medicine. The best aspect of being a family medicine physician is that it affords me the opportunity to establish ongoing, long-term relationships with my patients,” states Dr. Montgomery. “I have even had the great blessing of being able to care for four generations in one family — that doesn’t happen very often.”

Dr. Montgomery views the “patient-physician” relationship as a partnership.  “I am a big advocate for wellness, not just treating diseases and conditions. I have the knowledge and medical expertise to assist my patients with their decisions.  I try to find out who my patients are as people.  Some want me to tell them what to do, while others want me to advise them on their choices. My job is to try to determine what my patients need medically and what role they want me to take in their journey toward wellness.”
