This year’s A Day of Hope for Diabetes offers one of the most diversified and balanced programs to date and truly achieves the goal of “inspiration and education for a brighter future.” Included are such topics as: “Activity for Your Diabetes Health,”“Diabetes and Sexual Dysfunction,” and “Eat Well and Drink Well.” More than 15 physicians and six diabetes educators will present at this very special event—the largest free, full-day, multi-faceted, educational event of its kind in the 11 western states. Product Fair exhibitors will provide updates on the latest products for people living with diabetes.
Denise Faustman, MD, PhD, Director of the Immunobiology Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital, will discuss her latest research for a cure of Type 1 diabetes. Dr. Faustman was principle investigator in a study that led to the discovery of a novel way to treat diabetic mice, accomplishing for the first time ever the permanent reversal of established diabetes. With a $10 million grant from the Iacocca Foundation, Dr. Faustman has furthered the study, preparing for human clinical trials exploring how to stop the autoimmune attack in Type 1 diabetes.
Lawrence P. Reagan, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacology, Physiology & Neuroscience, University of South Carolina School of Medicine, will discuss his research on how diabetes affects the brain and therapeutic interventions to restore diabetes deficits in brain function.
