Eisenhower Receives Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Accreditations
The AACVPR-sponsored Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Certification, the only peer-reviewed accreditation process in the field, provides standards and guidelines for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs. To receive accreditation, a program is evaluated extensively for a 12-month period for adherence to national guidelines and standards of excellence in 19 different categories, including patient safety and treatment protocols.
The Eisenhower Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation teams diligently began work in 2007 to meet or exceed AACVPR’s standards of excellence. “The preparation process was intense, in part because both programs were being readied simultaneously for accreditation,” says Carl Enzor, Director, Eisenhower Renker Wellness Center. The rigorous guidelines and standards included extensive staff training, establishing patient treatment plans, measuring and documenting outcomes, and comprehensive patient and community education plans.
By December 2008, both applications were submitted along with six notebooks for each program, containing 19 chapters of documentation each! As the logical next step, Enzor anticipated receiving a letter from AACVPR by May 31 requesting clarification of program specifics prior to the final review. However, further review was not necessary. Notification arrived in mid-June, and both programs received the three-year accreditation. Eisenhower Renker Wellness Center’s Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program Certification preparation and execution was excellent.
Moreover, Eisenhower Renker Wellness Center has earned a Press Ganey® patient satisfaction rating of 94 percent, and is ranked among the best (the top one percent) of the more than 3,000 cardiac rehabilitation centers in the United States according to the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.
