  • Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, Critical Care Medicine and Certified by United Council for Neurological Subspecialities in Neurocritical Care, Samarjit (Sam) Singh, MD practices in the Eisenhower Pulmonary Specialty Clinic.

After finishing medical school in India, Dr. Singh completed internship and residency programs in internal medicine at UCSF Fresno and a fellowship at Harbor- UCLA Medical Center.

It was an illness of a close family member that exposed Dr. Singh to medicine and doctors at an early age. Respecting these physicians and with encouragement from his mother, Dr. Singh decided to pursue a career in medicine. While in medical school, he trained as a general surgeon and practiced several years before moving to the United States. Knowing he wanted to continue to do procedures, Dr. Singh decided that a subspecialty in pulmonology would provide the challenge of procedures while enjoying seeing patients on both an outpatient and inpatient basis.

“Pulmonology and Critical Care offers a physician the opportunity to see patients in their most vulnerable crisis state and allows the doctor to actually save a life,” states Dr. Singh. “I enjoy the challenges of seeing patients in both a critical state – in ICU or CCU, as well as on an outpatient basis before their disease state becomes critical.”

“When seeing patients on an outpatient basis, my responsibility is to educate and explain the disease process and provide options and recommendations on therapies to the patients and their family members. This is quite a different approach to that of seeing an unconscious patient in the ICU. Then, my responsibility is to stabilize the patient in the safest way possible; once stabilized then the education can begin.”

Dr. Singh has a unique specialty of being able to provide Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET). He trained with the physician who pioneered this procedure. CPET has become an important clinical tool to evaluate exercise capacity and predict outcomes in patients with heart failure and other cardiac conditions. Eisenhower Medical Center has the equipment required to complete this testing and analysis.
