News from Eisenhower Medical Center
In this issue of Healthy Living, Eisenhower Smilow Heart Center and our excellent multidisciplinary cardiac team are highlighted in Physicians Roundtable on page 34, in which you’ll find information about new treatments for chest pain and heart attacks, electrocardiograms sent from an ambulance to the emergency room, and an update on cholesterol medications.
One of our features tells the story of a life-saving balloon valvuloplasty procedure, performed recently for the first time at Eisenhower Medical Center. Cardiologists Barry Hackshaw, MD, and Andrew Frutkin, MD, both of whom had performed the procedure elsewhere, successfully treated patient Jim Beverage. Too high risk for openheart surgery, the procedure provided a bridge for Mr. Beverage until he is well enough for transcatheter aortic valve implantation.
In this issue, we also feature our Same Day Surgery Center. Located in the Dolores Hope Outpatient Care Center, the Same Day Surgery physicians and staff are dedicated to providing clinical excellence and individual care to patients and their families. Their teamwork and camaraderie is palpable which translates to exceptional care, fully backed by the resources of Eisenhower Medical Center.
Finally, I encourage you to read about each of our Centers of Excellence — Cardiology, Neuroscience, Orthopedics and Oncology, where you will learn about the newest techniques and procedures and find sage advice for communicating with friends and loved ones who have serious health concerns.
Thank you for choosing Eisenhower Medical Center — we will be here, with experience and excellence, when you need us.
In good health,
G. Aubrey Serfling
President and Chief Executive Officer
