  • Dr. Bencheqroun is a native of Morocco. He graduated from medical school and came to the United States to train in the fields of internal medicine, lung diseases and critical care.

“Shortly before defending my thesis and graduating from medical school, I was involved in a car accident which nearly claimed my life,” says Dr. Bencheqroun. “Through the days that followed, I was introduced to what it means to wear the patient’s hat, feel the pain, experience the pity in people’s eyes, ask for help, and wait every day for my doctors’ visits to tell me what’s next. That experience would forever affect the way I would treat my patients and their families.”

Dr. Bencheqroun trained for internal medicine at the SUNY-affiliated Wilson Memorial Hospital in upstate New York. He then chose Tufts University School of Medicine affiliate St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, for specialization in critical care, as well as, in lung diseases with Bartolome Celli, MD — recognized worldwide in the field of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Dr. Bencheqroun further underwent specialized training in interventional pulmonology at Harvard University, Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston. He trained with Armin Ernst, MD, a leader in the interventional pulmonary disease field, and renowned interventional pulmonologist Adnan Majid, MD, in state-of-the-art minimally invasive lung disease procedures and surgeries. Currently, Dr. Bencheqroun is working diligently with pulmonologists in the Eisenhower Medical Center community to bring this exciting technology and expertise to the Medical Center including, lung cancer diagnosis and staging, diagnosing airway obstructions and treating them with minimally invasive technology, and right heart catheterizations for the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary hypertension.

Dr. Bencheqroun was awarded the Patient’ Choice Award for two consecutive years, and has been selected to appear in the 2010 list of Top Physicians of America.

“In the end, my goal is to provide my patients with the best care possible. As a Pulmonary and Critical Care Specialist, for many of my patients, I am their best, and sometimes their only chance, at survival or simply at comfort. It’s what I do best, and it is only then that I feel at home.”
