Glickman Cardiac Care Clinic

The only heart failure clinic in the desert.

Congestive heart failure (CHF) can occur following damage to the heart caused by a heart attack, viral infection or other illness. The heart is then unable to pump enough blood to supply the body's needs. Patients may feel more tired than usual, or experience shortness of breath and/or an irregular heartbeat. The Glickman Heart Failure Clinic can help patients with CHF live comfortable and productive lives. Registered Nurses certified to care for patients with CHF work closely with each individual and their physician to design a treatment plan involving medications, diet, exercise and lifestyle modifications. Intensive patient and family education is emphasized to recognize the signs and symptoms of worsening heart failure. Treatment and monitoring at the Glickman Heart Failure Clinic can help patients with CHF avoid frequent hospitalization.

Eisenhower Medical Center's Glickman Heart Failure Clinic is the first specialized congestive heart failure (CHF) treatment facility in the Coachella Valley dedicated to helping patients with CHF live comfortable and productive lives. Located at the Renker Wellness Center in the Hal B. Wallis Building on the Eisenhower campus, the Clinic is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, nutritionists and psychologists. These highly skilled professionals work closely with each patient to design an individualized treatment plan involving medications, diet, exercise and lifestyle modifications. Intensive patient and family education is emphasized regarding the signs and symptoms of worsening heart failure. Outpatient treatment and monitoring at the Clinic can often help patients with heart failure to avoid frequent hospitalizations.

Eisenhower's Glickman Heart Failure Clinic takes an innovative and comprehensive approach to treatment of patients with this chronic disease. The physician-directed, nurse-run program encourages patients to be active partners in the management of the heart failure. Intensive patient and family education is emphasized relative to the signs and symptoms of worsening heart failure, dietary restrictions and medications.

The Clinic is fully equipped to deliver inotropic therapy - intravenous drugs which increase the strength of muscle contractions in patients with severe congestive heart failure. During treatment, patients can relax in the comfortable outpatient setting where individual televisions and VCRs are available for education or relaxation.

Eisenhower's Glickman Heart Failure Clinic also sponsors the valley's only Heart Failure Treatment Support Group. Open to patients who are being treated at the Clinic and their family members, this free support group features guest speakers who discuss a variety of topics related to heart failure, including treatment options, dietary regimes, exercise recommendations and helpful hints to successfully cope with and manage heart failure. Feedback from support group patients provides input toward the development of a positive heart failure program at Eisenhower. Monthly meetings are held at the Renker Wellness Center.
